Love Love Me Do!

Dear Friends,

Happy Valentine’s Day to you all. Today lovers the world over will celebrate with cards, chocolates, flowers and romantic poetry. Geoffrey Chaucer was the first to write about Saint Valentine in connection with romance, in his poem “Parlement of Foules” in 1382, while Shakespeare’s Ophelia makes reference to the day in “Hamlet”.

Valentines, those fervent notes of passion from secret admirers, became popular from the end of the 18th century, and the 19th century saw the first mass-produced cards created by Esther Howland.  In the 21st century many will celebrate Valentine’s Day digitally with e-cards and animated messages of adoration.

I prefer the old-fashioned way! From my heart to yours…
